Who we are:

The Security and Safety Service Vienna is mandated to provide a safe and secure environment for the staff of all Vienna-based organizations including UNODC, IAEA, UNOV and UNIDO, delegates, dignitaries, and visitors.

Within limits of the assigned authority, the Security Officer may be responsible for the following duties in the assigned area of ​​work:

  • Screen all personnel, packages and vehicles entering the Vienna International Center (VIC) to ensure authorized access.
  • Operate SSS Vienna physical/electronic security systems and communications systems.
  • Implement the proper application of SSS Vienna policies, Standard Operational Procedures, post-specific and daily orders.
  • Provide information and directions to all persons associated with VIC-based organizations.
  • effective Provide emergency response capability;be alert and respond to any potential or actual breaches of security, unsafe conditions, unusual activity and report these immediately.
  • Control pedestrian and vehicular traffic;enforce VIC traffic and garage administration rules.
  • Ensure that all UN property being carried from the VIC premises is checked for appropriate documentation.
  • Provide security coverage for UN conferences and special events.
  • Prepare various routine periodic reports as well as initial incident reports.
  • Maintain UN firearms qualification standards.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Job-Specific Qualification

  • Passing the Security Officer test (SOT) is a prerequisite, i.e. required, for recruitment consideration for Security Officer positions in the United Nations Secretariat.Applicants who have not passed or taken the SOT at the time of application may be invited for the test after submitting an application.
  • SOT is an entry level security examination at the duty station.Any travel expenses incurred in order to take the examination are the responsibility of the candidate and will not be reimbursed by the Organization.
  • Relevant training in security, police or military is required.
